Chestnut Hall Bed and Breakfast
The Chestnut Hall Bed and Breakfast is located in New Oxford, PA close to Gettysburg. It is a beautifully kept establishment which oozes history from all of its rooms and gardens.
The Himes (Sarah and Alexander) family originally purchased the lot in 1888 and with the help of architect John A. Dempwolf they built the beautiful home that is still standing. Alexander unfortunately died in the house of typhoid fever at a young age of 53 and the house was bequeathed to his wife Sarah. Sarah sadly died in the house on April 17 1931 and her daughter Ruth Reed Himes and her husband Hubert inherited the property.
Finally in 1971 the house left the grasp of the Himes family as both Ruth and Hubert passed away in quick succession. Since then the house has had four other owners and is currently under the ownership of Tina and Steve McNaughton.
The investigation started on Saturday evening. We set-up our "safe zone" on the covered back porch area and ran cables from this location to various areas of the house to our IR cameras. These cameras were situated in the following areas: downstairs main hallway, the library and dining areas, upstairs in the 3 main bedrooms and in the hallway as well. The team was split into groups of 4 investigators and each group was sent into the house to investigate for 50 minutes each. 10 minutes in between each group was used to de-brief and discuss issues. After 2am the groups were split into teams of two and all groups were placed in several locations throughout the house and remained in those areas with minimal movement. This time was taken to perform extensive EVP work, K-II / EMF and picture acquisition. The investigation was ceased at approximately 6am.
During the night several "personal experiences" were noted. Here are a few of those experiences.
1. During a 10 minute break when there were no investigators in the building, while sitting in the porch area 5 to 6 footsteps were clearly heard from the room directly above the porch.
2. An investigator heard a male whisper directly in her ear during an EVP session.
3. Some episodes of banging were noted by several investigators during the night.
One piece of evidence captured by one of our investigators, Chris was the following. It is faint but you can hear a voice repeating what Chris says about moving down to the other room.
We hope to revist soon and will update this website with and and all evidence retreived from this historic location.
Note: our history is from a group known as Genesis Paranormal Reasearch and Investigations and the evidence presented here is from that group. A special thanks to Andrew for allowing us to share this evidence.
